Quality Assurance
A best-practice, process-based Quality Management System (QMS) supports the mission of the RCSI Surgical Affairs Department. This Quality Management System and framework is underpinned by the broader Business Excellence strategy and ensures that our programme and services offerings are fit for purpose, represents value for money for stakeholders, in particular the relevant funding agencies and that we deliver the highest possible standards of Surgical and Emergency Medicine Training in Ireland and overseas.
Our Quality Statement is this enshrined in the Surgical Affairs Mission: "We will support the RCSI Noble Purpose by delivering excellence in surgical education and training by setting and supporting the highest possible standards in Surgical Practice. We will at all times act in the interest of patients and the quality of their care."
Quality Assurance of Surgical Training
External Quality Assurance in relation for our training programmes is provided primarily by the Medical Council of Ireland as part of a legislative requirement of the Medical Practitioners Act 2007. All Surgical and Emergency Medicine Training Programmes are subject to Medical Council Accreditation against the Medical Council Standards for Postgraduate Medical Education and Training, approved by the Medical Council on the 1st of June 2010 and revised on the 25th of October, 2011.
The Internal Quality Assurance Programme of the Surgical Affairs department is supported by a framework which ensures that a holistic approach to educational quality assurance is continually adgered to and promoted.
