
What we do
We support the mission of RCSI Surgical Affairs by designing, developing, and implementing a process-based Quality Management System (QMS).
Our role is divided into three core areas:
REGULATORY AFFAIRS AND COMPLIANCE
We ensure that RCSI Surgical Affairs meet the requirements of the Medical Council Accreditation Standards, our Intercollegiate governance arrangements and other regulatory and compliance requirements.
QUALITY ASSURANCE
We design and implement a quality assurance framework for our Postgraduate Surgical & Emergency Medicine Training Programmes, Academic & Continuous Professional Development Programmes.
BUSINESS EXCELLENCE
We develop and strengthen our management systems and business processes to improve performance and create value for stakeholders.

Quality Assurance & Regulatory Affairs Manager
Emeka Okereke is the Lead for Quality Assurance & Regulatory Affairs in RCSI Surgical Affairs. He was a former Programme Manager for the National Clinical Programme for Surgery. He has significant expertise in Project Management, Change Management, Quality Assurance, Regulatory Affairs & Compliance. In his previous roles, he has led several large-scale change and transformation projects in the areas of Education, Healthcare, and Technology.
Emeka was the Co-Chair of the Race Equality Forum at the RCSI University of Medicine and Health Sciences. He led the development of the Institutional Race Equality Action Plan in 2021 and won the Vice Chancellor’s EDI Champion Award in 2022.

Ms Jean Lannin MPSI, MPharm, PgDip Quality and Safety in Healthcare
Quality Assurance and Regulatory Affairs Executive
Jean has over 8 years’ experience in Quality Assurance in education and the pharmaceutical Industry. A Registered Pharmacist with a Master’s Degree in Pharmacy and community pharmacy experience.
My duties within the Quality Team in RCSI include overseeing the running of our Training Post Inspections, performing quality functions and checks for our main business processes including intake and CAPAs and embedding an ethos of quality within the department. An important role of the QA team is to assist teams in documenting their processes using our QMS software. I enjoy collaborating with our stakeholders to identify opportunities for process improvements, ultimately enhancing the delivery of training for our Surgery and Emergency Medicine trainees.

Marriyam Batool
Quality Assurance & Regulatory Affairs Officer
Marriyam has over 5 years of experience in Quality Assurance. Joined the RCSI Surgical Affairs team in February 2023. Skilled in process improvement, training and data analysis. Responsibilities include managing the Quality Management System (QMS), providing QMS training to new employees, providing essential QA support to cross-functional teams (HST, CST, EM, and Academic Programmes). Currently involved in projects such as Feedback policy and Annual returns. Dedicated to continuous improvement and achieving excellence in every aspect of my work.

Ms Natalie Falkenstein
Quality Assurance and Regulatory Affairs Administrator
Having worked for many years as a Quality Manager, in Manufacturing, Electronics, Transport and Shipping and the Security Industries, I came to RCSI in late 2023, joining the Surgical Affairs Department as Quality Assurance and Regulatory Affairs Administrator. Within this role I support the work of the Quality Assurance and Regulatory Affairs Unit. In particular, the ongoing development and enhancement of the RCSI Surgical Affairs Training Post Accreditation system and support of Fellowship Post Accreditation.
The principal objective of my role is to provide administrative and operational support to the Unit and to support the other Surgical Affairs units (CST, HST, EM) in terms of inspection planning and QA checks: scheduling of training post inspection/accreditation activities, post-visit/inspection activities, administrative support of accreditation reporting and documentation and to foster relationships with our partners and broad stakeholder pool. Also, to provide support and coordinate with process owners on the development of QA Check Lists/schedules, QA testing of data accuracy and spreadsheet integrity, documenting and updating SOPs, and assisting with document template/version control within the Quality Management System.
