ASPIRE Clinical Fellowship in Craniofacial and Paediatric Plastic

Post Duration Commencing Eligibility
Childrens Health Ireland  Hospital 1 Year July 2025 Available to doctors who have obtained CCST and are within two years of post CCST* or eligible for entry into the specialist division of OFMS and Plastic Surgery (IMC). Applications for this Fellowship will be accepted from surgical trainees in any surgical discipline.

Fellowship Details

The fellow will be expected to achieve a strong understanding of the assessment and management of complex craniofacial conditions and the principles of craniofacial surgery, in particular ear reconstruction. The fellow will also be expected to achieve a strong understanding of the assessment and management of vascular malformations, facial palsy, complex soft tissue facial defects and will expect to achieve independent technical proficiency in these areas. 

The fellow will rotate through multidisciplinary craniofacial, ear reconstruction, facial difference, facial palsy and vascular malformation clinics in CHI, St James’s Hospital (SJH) and the Mater Misercordiae University Hospital (MMUH), covering all aspects of craniofacial management including antenatal counselling, new baby assessment, assessment for orthognathic surgery at combined orthodontic and maxillofacial clinics as well as adolescent, transitional and adult clinics.  In addition to mentoring from senior colleagues in the unit, the fellow will be eligible to apply for seed funding and support from the Research and Innovation Office (RIO) at CHI. The fellow will be expected to submit at least one full manuscript for publication and to attend and present clinical research at international meetings, such as the International and European societies of craniofacial surgery (ISCFS, ESCFS) and Craniofacial Society of Great Britain and Ireland, and to participate in the surgical Clinical Excellence Network of ERN-Cranio.  

The fellow will be expected to contribute to the teaching of undergraduate medical students, core surgical trainees and higher surgical trainees on a regular basis either through lectures or tutorials.
